Hawke Optics Endurance ED 10×50 Binocular Review

The Endurance ED 10×50 measures up to be the perfect hunting optics.

By Nancy Jo Adams

A successful hunt often comes down to relying on your optics for spotting and stalking game animals. I have field-tested a variety of brands of binoculars over the past nine years and have experienced top-shelf performance with many of them. I have also found flaws or inconveniences with several. The issues have ranged from rough eye cups, to loose diopter knobs, too large or too heavy bodies, to poor quality glass.

Hawke Optics offers six different binoculars in the Endurance ED lineup, the 8×32 and 10×32, 8×42 and 10×42, 10×50 and 12×50. The light gathering capabilities and field of view are the main differences among the binoculars, as well as a slight increase in weight in the 8×32 versus the 12×50. The field of view of the 8 power binoculars is 388 feet at 1,000 yards, the 10 power is 304 feet at 1,000 yards, and the 12 power is 246 feet at 1,000 yards.

For my purposes, being a stand hunter the majority of my hunts and a spot and stalker only a small portion of the time, the 10×50 binocular is the perfect magnification. This power will allow me the up-close clarity that I need with light gathering properties for low light situations such as being under heavy tree canopy cover or last shooting light. However, this power allows me to be able to spot animals from afar while offering 304 feet field of view at 1,000 yards.

The Hawke Optics Endurance ED 10×50 binocular features extra-low dispersion glass to offer optimum clarity with a fully multi-coated optical system to produce sharp images, and high-resolution phase corrected BK-4 roof prism; these features combined equate to the highest quality of clarity available in optics for short and long-distance viewing. The textured, lightweight rubber coated top-hinge constructed body offers a conveniently located focus knob for easy adjustment while viewing through the lenses. The focus knob is a 1.2 turn function and adjusts to a close focus of 6.6 feet minimum.

The ocular lens offers an easy to use diopter adjustment ring, and twist-up eye cups with dedicated position stops for customizable eye relief. The binoculars are nitrogen purged to protect against water and fog within the lens chamber. The binoculars feature stay-on lens covers for both the ocular and objective lenses for protection and to guard against moisture and dust.

The Hawke Optics Endurance ED 10×50 binoculars come with a deluxe carry case, neck strap, lens cloth, and instruction manual with warranty. The dedicated neck strap attachment posts are securely built into the body of the binoculars and are solid so that rings can be added to use with other style binocular straps or harnesses. Hawke binoculars are covered by the Hawke Lifetime warranty. The quality of the Hawke Optics Endurance ED 10×50 binoculars far exceeds the very economical price point. I have reviewed other binoculars featuring less the quality at higher prices and would have expected to have to pay a higher price for the Hawke Optics Endurance ED binoculars.
